Awareness on Card Fraud and its Mitigation
Internet Society Nepal organized an awareness event on “Card Fraud and its Mitigation” in Banepa, Kavre on 26 May 2018. The event was attended by 33 participants representing different sector including the financial institution, Nepal Police, Journalists, students and end users. The main objective of the program was to sensitize people about different types of card fraud and its mitigation; and to raise awareness about the safer card use among major stakeholders including cardholders, merchant, issuer banks and acquirer banks. The program was organized in partnership Budhanilkantha Jaycees And Kavrepalanchowk Jaycees.
Mr. Amar Rajbhandari, General Secretary, Internet Society Nepal and E-banking Head, Machhapuchhre Bank Limited made a presentation on the topic. The presentation covered types of card, types of frauds common in Nepal, Security measures to be taken by the cardholders, Investigation procedures, Security measures to be taken by the merchants and banks etc. After presentation, participants took part in the discussion and Mr. Rajbhandari responded to the questions and concerns raised by the participants.
The participants found the program very useful to enhance their knowledge as well as to mitigate potential card frauds by taking necessary measures. They also highlighted the importance of such types of awareness programs to address the present need in the context of increasing number of card users and fraudulent activities.
